HVAC Sales Engineer
The Sales Engineer, under the direction of the Vice President of Business Development, is responsible for cultivating existing and pursuing new client relationships in support of sales objectives in the South Carolina market.
Core Areas:
Sales Development
- Calls on existing general contractor clients to develop strong relationships with their team
- Reaches out to new clients as needed to meet the business needs and sales goals
- Responsible for annual achievement of sales goals and margin targets, as determined by the VP and President
Construction Estimating and Budgeting
Budgeting with narrative or incomplete drawings
- Develops complete and accurate schematic design budgets based on the minimal written narrative and/or concept with only a building outline to use
- Reaches out to necessary vendors for budget pricing, when necessary
- May be required to price jobs multiple times over months or years
- Submits accurate and early budgets in pursuit of early awarded projects to avoid low bidder practices
- Creates detailed budget proposals, as needed
- Maintains accurate and early budgets to obtain design assist opportunities and build general contractor relationships
- Stays current with material and labor costs to address escalation during budgeting of long-term projects
- Acquires final margin approval and pricing from VP or President before sending out
- If is unfamiliar with the type of project or system, is then responsible to review the project with Estimating Manager, VP or President before sending out pricing
Estimating with fully engineered drawings
- Leads a team on the estimating effort relevant to a bid and/or project through initial vendor request to final estimate and proposal
- Reviews construction documents in depth including notes, schedules, details, and specifications
- Attend pre-bid meetings and makes job site visits, as required
- Reviews a bid and/or project as necessary with the internal team to gain insight and buy-in to the project cost and proposal
- Performs material and labor take-offs, when needed
- Enters takeoff quantities and vendor pricing into estimate sheet, as required
- Completes and is responsible for the accuracy of the estimate sheet. If estimate is put together by the estimating team, then the Senior Estimator, Estimating Manager and the Sales Engineer are responsible for the final check before sending pricing out.
- Acquires final margin approval and pricing from VP or President before sending out
- If is unfamiliar with the type of project or system, is then responsible to review the project with Estimating Manager, VP or President before sending out pricing
- Reviews design options and develops comparative estimates, recommends VE solutions based on first cost, pay-back, engineering quality, and sustainability
- Creates detailed scope letters or proposals to communicate clearly to our customers our scope, budget, exclusions, and schedule
Post Bid Projects
- Responsible for following up on post bid projects for feedback and updates from general contractors
- Assists Estimating Manager in development of budgeting numbers for building types and systems to be used by other team members
- Enters job specific data in project tracking software
- Can attend scope review meetings or calls to answer questions from the general contractors
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering or Building Sciences or;
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in estimating commercial HVAC projects or;
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in design, preconstruction, or management of commercial, institutional, or industrial mechanical and plumbing construction projects
- 2+ years of related sales experience, construction background preferred
- Expertise in mechanical system costs and project management
